Ethyl 5-phenylisoxazole-3-carboxylate is a linker molecule that is used to connect rifampin to other molecules. It has been shown to have inhibitory activity against a number of phosphatases, including acid phosphatase and alkaline phosphatase. Ethyl 5-phenylisoxazole-3-carboxylate also binds to adenosine receptors and inhibits the replication of DNA in bacteria. This compound is hydrophobic and can be used as an affinity label for purification of proteins from bacteria. Ethyl 5-phenylisoxazole-3-carboxylate has been shown to be effective in drug resistant tuberculosis (TB) cases, such as multi-drug resistant TB.
