Oxine benzoate is a fungicide that inhibits the growth of fungi by inhibiting protein synthesis. It is used as a disinfectant and pesticide for plants, as well as for the treatment of fungal skin diseases. Oxine benzoate has been shown to inhibit the growth of fungi at concentrations of less than 1 ppm. This compound has been shown to be effective against plant diseases such as powdery mildew and also has a solubilizing effect on other pesticides such as 2-phenylphenol. The mechanism of action involves binding to the acceptor site on fungal ribosomes, which disrupts protein synthesis by blocking peptide bond formation.
