2-Chloroindole is a nitro drug that has high affinity binding to serine proteases and is a bactericidal. 2-Chloroindole has been shown to be effective against cardiovascular disorders, brain infarction, and nervous system diseases. This compound is being developed for clinical use as an antihypertensive agent. It has two different stereoisomers: the R-enantiomer and the S-enantiomer. The R-enantiomer of 2-chloroindole binds more tightly to the serine protease than does the S-enantiomer.
