Product Information
1,3-Dimethyl-1H-benzimidazolium iodide is a chloride that has an unusual photophysical and kinetic behaviour. It is often used as a precursor to formylation reactions, which are reactions in which the hydrogen atom on carbon is replaced by a formyl group. The 1,3-dimethyl-1H-benzimidazolium iodide reacts with nucleophiles such as pyridine to form the corresponding nucleophile, which can be analysed using NMR spectroscopy. This compound is synthesized by combining chloroform and iodomethane in the presence of palladium complexes. The 1,3-dimethyl-1H-benzimidazolium iodide also reacts with β-unsaturated aldehydes to form homoenolate products, which can be analysed by gas chromatography. The residue of this reaction can be analysed using infrared spectroscopy.
