3-Chloro-1-(4-hydroxyphenyl)propan-1-one is an irreversible inactivator of gamma aminobutyric acid (GABA) transaminase. It is a competitive inhibitor of GABA transaminase, which is responsible for the conversion of GABA to succinic semialdehyde. 3-Chloro-1-(4-hydroxyphenyl)propan-1-one has been shown to be effective against 4-hydroxybenzaldehyde in tests using purified enzyme and rat liver and brain homogenates. This compound also inhibits the activity of GABA transaminase in both time-dependent and concentration dependent manners.
