Product Information

Name:
2,6-Dimethylbenzene-1,4-diamine
Description:

2,6-Dimethylbenzene-1,4-diamine is a nitro compound that is used as an intermediate for the production of carbazoles. It is a colorless liquid with a characteristic odor and a boiling point of 154°C. 2,6-Dimethylbenzene-1,4-diamine has been found to be carcinogenic in rats and mice when administered by intraperitoneal injection. It has also been shown to have mutagenic effects on bacteria, such as Salmonella typhimurium and Escherichia coli. The carcinogenicity of 2,6-dimethylbenzene-1,4-diamine may be due to its ability to act as an alkylating agent by forming covalent bonds with DNA. This leads to DNA strand breaks and may cause mutations in the gene sequence.
