3-Phenylprop-2-ynamide is an activated derivative of 3-phenylpropanolamine that has been shown to be carcinogenic in animal experiments. It is an active substance that is used in the synthesis of pharmaceutical preparations with various functions, such as antihypertensive drugs. The molecule reacts with methyl hydroxy to form a reactive intermediate, which can react with amine groups and form linkages. This reaction product has been shown to produce hyperproliferative diseases in animals, but the mechanism for this effect is not yet known. 3-Phenylprop-2-ynamide also shows hydrogen bonding interactions with other molecules and has electron deficient functional groups.
