(9-Fluorenyl)triphenylphosphonium bromide is a reagent used in organic chemistry for decoloration and exothermic reactions. It is a white solid that reacts with trans-stilbene to form triphenylphosphine oxide and carbon dioxide. The filtrate is neutralized with sodium hydroxide to yield the salt of 9-fluorenyl triphenylphosphonium hydroxide, which can be hydrolyzed to triphenyl phosphine oxide. This chemical can be used in a preparative scale reaction if the carbonyl group is removed by hydrolysis.
