N,N-Dimethyl-3-nitrobenzamide is an amide derivative of 3-nitrobenzamide. It has been shown to be a potential drug for the treatment of hyperglycemia and phospholipidosis in mice with diabetes. This drug also increases glucose uptake by skeletal muscle cells and lowers plasma glucose levels in diabetic mice. N,N-Dimethyl-3-nitrobenzamide has been shown to act as an agonist for peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPARγ), which is involved in regulating the metabolism of fatty acids and cholesterol. However, this drug may have toxicological effects on kidneys and liver tissue because it is metabolized into piperidine, a known carcinogen.
