Cyclohexyltriphenylphosphonium bromide (CPTPC) is a potent nicotinic acetylcholine receptor antagonist that blocks the binding of acetylcholine to its receptor. It has been shown to have renal toxicity in rats and mice, as well as inhibition potential for nicotinic acetylcholine receptors. CPTPC binds to the carboxamido group of nicotinic acetylcholine receptors, which is situated at the outer surface of the cell membrane. The adsorption mechanism is through hydrophobic interactions with the alkyl groups on CPTPC. This drug also has an anti-inflammatory effect, which may be due to its ability to inhibit α7 nAChR activity in cells and reduce inflammatory cytokine production.
