4-Acetamido-2-bromo-5-nitroanisole is a drug that is used to treat malaria. It is an analogue of primaquine, which is a 8-aminoquinoline compound. The chemical structure of 4-Acetamido-2-bromo-5-nitroanisole contains a nitro group and an acetamide group. This compound has been shown to be schizonticidal against Plasmodium falciparum in vitro. 4-Acetamido-2-bromo-5-nitroanisole can also be hydrolyzed by potassium hydroxide to form the 8 aminoquinolines, which are effective at killing mature parasites in the blood stream.
