Phosphonium, tributylethyl-, bromide (PTEB) is a catalyst. A catalyst is a substance that increases the rate at which a chemical reaction proceeds by lowering the activation energy for the reaction. PTEB has been used as a catalyst in organic synthesis because of its high activity.
