4-Acetylphenylacetic acid (4APA) is a chemical compound that is used as a catalyst. It is also used to functionalize carboxyl groups and to catalyze the reaction between ethylenediamine and citric acid, forming flavylium ion. 4APA can be used in the functionalization of amines with acetic anhydride and N,N-dimethylformamide to form acetic acid amides. 4APA can also be used for the synthesis of citric acids by coupling acetaldehyde with citric acid.
