2,2,5,5-Tetramethyl-1,2,5-oxadisilolane (TMOD) is a high molecular weight compound that has an isopropoxy group. It can be used to terminate polymers and form sections in the polymer chain. TMOD also has latent activity that can be activated by the addition of heat or light. This compound is also a ring-opening polymerization monomer and is used in devices such as optical switches. The ruthenium atom on this molecule acts as a catalyst for the ring-opening polymerization reaction and allows it to occur with low energy input.
