Ethenesulfonic acid, 2-propenyl ester is a monomer that can be used in the production of polymers. It is unsymmetrical, copolymerizable with other vinyl acetate monomers and can be polymerized by free radical initiation to form a variety of polymers. Ethenesulfonic acid, 2-propenyl ester is an additive for plastics and resins. The reactive nature of this compound makes it useful as a reactive ingredient in devices such as fuel cells or batteries. This monomer is also used to produce cyclic ethers by the addition of ethylene oxide and ethylene glycol.
