2,4-Dimethylbenzenesulfonamide is a hydrolysed derivative of benzene. It has been shown to be an effective coupling agent for the synthesis of amides and esters. The melting point of 2,4-dimethylbenzenesulfonamide is 132°C. This compound can be used in the preparation of ortho-sulphonic acid chlorides and other sulphonic acids as well as in the synthesis of heterocycles. The chemical properties and structural features of 2,4-dimethylbenzenesulfonamide have been reexamined. The spectrum of this compound has also been studied and found to differ from that reported earlier.
