8-Nitroisoquinoline is a ligand that binds to the p-glycoprotein transporter and inhibits its function. The conformation of 8-nitroisoquinoline is shown by the five-membered ring, which is also found in 6-chloropurine riboside. 8-Nitroisoquinoline has been shown to act as an inhibitor of multidrug resistance mediated by p-glycoprotein in human erythrocytes. It has been shown experimentally that this compound does not affect the activity of other transporters such as the breast cancer resistance protein (BCRP). In addition, it has a neutralizing effect on drug transport in flow cytometery experiments and does not react with DNA.
