N-(4-Aminophenyl)acrylamide is a water-soluble polymer that can be used to coat the surface of proteins. This polymer has been shown to have a yield of about 45% and can be produced from trimethylolpropane, which is an inexpensive raw material. The coating of N-(4-aminophenyl)acrylamide on the protein surface changes the properties of the protein and helps increase the stability, solubility, and yields of the protein. The polymers can also be used in assays for oligosaccharides and viruses. They can also be used to coat carbon nanotubes and spherical particles such as virus capsids or carbon nanotubes. It has been shown to bind to RNA genome and enable isolation of viruses that are resistant to other methods of isolation.
