Divinyltin dichloride is an organometallic compound that is used as a cross-linking agent in polymerization reactions. It has the chemical formula C6H5SnCl2. Divinyltin dichloride forms a stable complex with the phenyl groups on the polymer chain and catalyzes the formation of new bonds between these chains. Divinyl tin dichloride is a radiation-resistant, water-insoluble, and heat-resistant polymerization initiator that can be used to initiate free radical polymerization reactions. The monomers that are produced by this process are polymers with repeating units that have a linear, branched, or cyclic structure. The use of divinyltin dichloride as a cross-linking agent results in polymers with different properties than those produced without it. This material can be used for coating applications because it does not corrode or degrade at higher temperatures.
