8-Methoxyquinazoline is a bioavailable inhibitor of protein homeostasis. It inhibits the enzyme Aldehyde oxidase, which is involved in the synthesis of fatty acids and cholesterol. 8-Methoxyquinazoline also has anti-leishmanial activity. This drug binds to two different sites on the Enzyme Aldehyde oxidase, inhibiting its activity and preventing the production of leishmanial fatty acids. This may be due to its ability to induce autophagy and inhibit leishmanial markers such as phospholipase D (PLD) or fatty acid synthase (FAS).
