2-Chloronaphthalene-1-carboxylic acid is an organic compound that contains a chlorine atom and a nitrogen atom. It is the simplest chlorinated derivative of naphthalene. 2-Chloronaphthalene-1-carboxylic acid is an important intermediate in the synthesis of other compounds, such as herbicides and pharmaceuticals. It can be obtained by chlorination of naphthalene with elemental chlorine, or by heating naphthalene in the presence of chlorine gas at 300 °C. 2-Chloronaphthalene-1-carboxylic acid has been shown to interact with other molecules through intermolecular forces to form complexes. These interactions are due to factors such as polarity and molecular geometry, which can be experimentally investigated using techniques such as crystallography and X-ray diffraction. The theory behind this is explained by physicochemical function theory, which uses concepts from chemistry, physics and mathematics
