Description:

Niobium(V) fluoride is a compound that can be used for the preparation of carboxylic acids from alcohols. The reaction mechanism is based on the formation of an acid complex between Ni(V) and trifluoroacetic acid, which is then hydrolyzed to form the desired carboxylic acid. The optimum concentration of Ni(V) fluoride in this reaction has been determined to be 0.5 M at 25 °C and at a pressure of 1.0 bar. This compound can also be used as a hydrogen bond donor in a variety of chemical reactions involving hydrogen bonding, such as x-ray crystal structures or frequency shifts.
