Thallium (ous) fluoride is a compound that contains the elements thallium and fluorine. It has a molecular weight of 209.3 g/mol, a dipole moment of 1.2 D, and is an orange-red solid at room temperature. Thallium (ous) fluoride can be found in two different forms: the tetrafluoride (TlF) or the pentafluoride (TlF). The tetrafluoride form is more stable than the pentafluoride form, which is unstable and decomposes to release hydrogen fluoride gas.
Thallium (ous) fluoride can be used as a radiation source for laser ablation due to its high kinetic energy and frequency shift. It also has transport properties that are dependent on concentration, which can be determined using proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy.
