Palladium(II) iodide is a nanomaterial that has been shown to be effective in the treatment of bacterial infections. This compound has been shown to have antibacterial activity. Palladium(II) iodide is unique in its ability to bind methylthiourea, which can be released from the compound when it comes into contact with hydrochloric acid. The bound form of palladium(II) iodide also has a high affinity for thione compounds, which can lead to oxidative carbonylation reactions. These reactions are catalyzed by palladium complexes and result in the formation of reactive intermediates that bind to other molecules, such as zirconium, dimethylthiourea (DMTU), and orthophosphate (PO43-). Palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions can then be used to prepare palladium-containing compounds with different substituents on either side of the molecule.
