Cerium (III) iodide is an organolithium compound that inhibits the phosphatase enzyme. It is used as a preparative agent for β-unsaturated ketones and aldehydes, but it also has potent inhibition against PTP1B. Cerium (III) iodide is soluble in chloroform, dichloromethane, and ether. This compound can be synthesized by reacting cerium chloride with borohydride reduction of lithium chloride or potassium chloride.
