Telluric acid is an inorganic acid that is a tellurium compound of the type (TeO)2HO. Telluric acid has the chemical formula Te(OH)2 and is a solid that can be used as a catalyst for organic synthesis, such as ethylene diamine. It is also used in photomultiplier tubes to detect photons and electrons. Telluric acid has a strong affinity for hydrogen bonds and hydroxyl groups, which make it chemically stable. The thermal expansion coefficient of telluric acid is about 2.4 x 10-6/°C at 25°C, making it suitable for use as a solid catalyst. Telluric acid also has ferroelectric properties that are useful in kinetic data collection.
Telluric Acid was discovered by Pierre Jules César Janssen in 1875 while he was studying tellurium compounds with his brother Jacques Ernest Janssen who was studying chemistry at the time. They
