Azido-PEG4-C2-carboxylic Acid is a ligand that binds to the outer membrane protein of E. coli, which is a medically important bacterium. This ligand has been shown to be an effective toxin detector and can be used for the visualization and detection of E. coli in samples. Azido-PEG4-C2-carboxylic Acid binds to the lipopolysaccharide (LPS) on the cell surface of E. coli cells and can be used as a multivalent antigen for vaccines against this bacterium. It also has been shown to bind to proteins from other bacteria, such as verotoxin, which may help with the diagnosis of bacterial infections in complex mixtures.
