Product Information
4-Benzyl-1(2H)-phthalazinone is a synthetic compound that is used in cancer therapy. It inhibits the growth of cancer cells by reacting with DNA to form DNA adducts, which can lead to apoptosis, or programmed cell death. 4-Benzyl-1(2H)-phthalazinone binds to a pro-apoptotic protein and forms an alkylating agent that reacts with the DNA base cytosine. This reaction leads to the formation of an adduct between the triazole ring and the hydroxyl group on cytosine, which forms a stable covalent bond. The carbonyl group on phthalazinone reacts with thiosemicarbazide to form a reactive intermediate that reacts with other molecules in a similar fashion. These reactions ultimately lead to cell death.
