Product Information
4-(2-Methyl-1-oxopropyl)benzoic acid is a metabolite that is produced by the gut microbial flora. It has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of bacteria such as Lactobacillus acidophilus, Escherichia coli, and Faecalis. 4-(2-Methyl-1-oxopropyl)benzoic acid inhibits the growth of gram-negative bacteria by alkylating their DNA, preventing DNA replication and transcription. The compound also blocks the production of enzymes that are necessary for bacterial cell wall synthesis. This results in cell death due to disrupted membrane integrity. 4-(2-Methyl-1-oxopropyl)benzoic acid has also been found to disrupt kidney cells in vitro assays.
