Product Information
- Benzoicacid, o-vinyl-, ethyl ester (8CI)
- Ethyl 2-vinylbenzoate
2-Vinyl-benzoic acid ethyl ester is a synthetic molecule that is used in organic synthesis. It is a precursor to the synthesis of organometallic molecules, such as ruthenium complexes. 2-Vinyl-benzoic acid ethyl ester can be synthesized from nitroethane and methoxyethanol. The reaction requires base, such as sodium acetate, to activate the carboxylic acid and form an acyl chloride intermediate. Methoxy groups are transferred to the vinyl group by a substitution reaction and the final product is made by ring opening with potassium tert-butoxide.
