2-Cyanopropan-2-yl benzoate is a small molecule that activates the receptor γ. It has been shown to inhibit protein glycation and peroxisome proliferation in cell culture, as well as glucokinase activity in rats. This compound is a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitor that has been shown to be effective in reducing blood glucose levels in diabetic mice. It also inhibits dipeptidyl peptidase-4, which is an enzyme that metabolizes proinsulin to insulin. 2-Cyanopropan-2-yl benzoate may have potential for the treatment of type II diabetes mellitus.
