Product Information

Name:
Methyl 1-methyl-3-oxocyclopentane-1-carboxylate
Description:

Methyl 1-methyl-3-oxocyclopentane-1-carboxylate (MMCP) is a methylating agent that is used in the diagnosis of genetic disorders. MMCP is a substrate for DNA methyltransferase, which catalyzes the addition of one or more methyl groups to the cytosine nucleotide at position 6. Methylation of this nucleotide creates an epigenetic mark that can be detected in cells from different tissues. MMCP is also used as a research tool in molecular biology and pharmacology because it has been shown to cause both demethylation and lysine methylation reactions. It is metabolized via glucuronidation and excreted in urine.
