Product Information
Mevalonic acid is a metabolite of isopentenyl diphosphate and dimethylallyl diphosphate that is involved in the synthesis of cholesterol. It has been shown to inhibit the proliferation of cultured human lymphocytes and to cause a decrease in the number of platelets. Mevalonic acid also inhibits chemokine-mediated activation of human monocytes, which may be due to its ability to bind to chemokine receptors. This compound also inhibits the synthesis of tissue plasminogen activator (tPA), which may contribute to its anti-inflammatory effects. Mevalonic acid has been shown to have pleiotropic effects on a variety of different cells, including inhibition of cellular proliferation and immunomodulatory effects.
