Description:
6-Bromoquinolin-8-amine is a nitro derivative of 8-nitroquinoline. It has been shown to be an effective mycotoxin, with a fungitoxic activity against the fungus Myrothecium verrucaria. 6-Bromoquinolin-8-amine binds to the enzyme cytochrome oxidase and irreversibly inhibits mitochondrial respiration, leading to cell death by suffocation. The nitro group on this molecule makes it susceptible to reduction or hydrolysis, which may explain its rapid metabolism in vivo.
