3,4-Benzodioxan-6-one is a potent apoptotic agent that has been shown to inhibit cell growth in vitro. It induces apoptosis through an endoplasmic reticulum stress response pathway by activating the protein kinase PERK. 3,4-Benzodioxan-6-one has also been shown to have an inhibitory effect on tyrosinase activity and ganglionic transmission. 3,4-Benzodioxan-6-one is not active against noncancerous cells such as those from a human skin fibroblast line (GM) or a rat kidney cell line (HRT).
