4-Sec-Butoxy-2-butanone is a bioactive compound that has been shown to have medicinally active properties. 4-sec-Butoxy-2-butanone is a colorless liquid that has an odor of butterscotch, banana, and nutmeg. It is soluble in ether and ethanol. Gc-ms analysis shows the presence of four peaks with molecular weights of 136, 146, 154, and 162. The first two peaks are identified as 2-(4'-sec-butoxybutyryl)pentanedione (136) and 2-(4'-sec-butoxypentanoyl) pentanedione (146). The third peak is identified as 2-(4'-secs butoxybutyryl)-3-methylpentanedione (154). The fourth peak is identified as 2-(4'-secs butoxybutyryl)-3,5 dimethylpentanedione (162).
