2-Chloro-5-ethoxypyrimidine is a product of the reaction between naphthalene and dichloropyrimidine. It can be isolated by using solvents such as ethanol, chloroform, ether, or diethyl ether. The reaction is catalyzed by palladium on charcoal and the product is dehalogenated with hydrogen chloride in methanol.
2-Chloro-5-ethoxypyrimidine has been used as an acceptor in palladium catalysis for the hydrogenation of nitriles to amides.
