4-Fluoromethyl-pyridine is a fluorinated electrophilic compound that can be synthesized from difluoroketones. 4-Fluoromethyl-pyridine can be used to make other fluorinated compounds, such as enamines and imines. It is also an anion that can be used for the selective replacement of hydrogen or halides in organic molecules.
4-Fluoromethyl-pyridine has been shown to react with anions to form hydrogen fluoride, which is useful for the production of fluorinated pharmaceuticals. 4-Fluoromethyl-pyridine can also be used to generate an imine from an amine and phenol, which is then reduced by lithium aluminum hydride (LiAlH4) to produce piperidine.
