1-Benzyl-1,4,8,11-tetraazacyclotetradecane is a ligand that binds to copper. It has been used as a radioactive tracer in the study of tumor uptake and tissue distribution. It binds to a monoclonal antibody against the tumor antigen, which is then bound to the tumor cells. The complex is then injected into an animal and 1-benzyl-1,4,8,11-tetraazacyclotetradecane will bind to any tumor cells present. Tissues are then harvested for analysis by liquid chromatography and radioactivity measurements. The presence of 1-benzyl-1,4,8,11-tetraazacyclotetradecane indicates that the tissue samples contain tumor cells.
