Product Information
6-Nitro-1H-indole-3-sulfonyl chloride is a sulfonamide with a nitro group at the 1 position. It has been shown to be an effective intermediate for the preparation of sulfonamides. The synthesis starts from 1,2,4-trichloroethane and indole. The chloroethane is reacted with ammonia in the presence of sulfuric acid to yield 2,4-dichloropyrimidine. This intermediate is then reacted with nitric acid to yield 6-nitroindole. Finally, this compound is treated with phosphorus pentachloride to yield 6-nitroindole 3-sulfonyl chloride.
