1,3-Di-t-butylimidazolium chloride is a benzyl derivative that can be synthesized by the reaction of 1,3-dibromo-1,1,2,2-tetrachloroethane and t-butylamine. This molecule has been shown to catalyze the formation of terminal alkynes from electron-deficient olefins such as butadiene. The reaction proceeds via an organocatalytic mechanism with a magnetic spinel catalyst. The terminal alkyne can then be converted into other compounds by nucleophilic addition or displacement reactions. The molecular weight of 1,3-di-t-butylimidazolium chloride is 160.07 g/mol.
