(R)-2-Aminomethyl-1-methyl-4,4-difluoropyrrolidine (ADF) is an innovative molecule with serotonergic properties that has been shown to be an effective inhibitor of oxidases and enzymes involved in the synthesis of serotonin. ADF inhibits the enzyme tryptophan hydroxylase and is a potent 5-HT1a receptor agonist. ADF also acts as a competitive antagonist at 5-HT2 receptors. Although (R)-2-Aminomethyl-1-methyl-4,4-difluoropyrrolidine has low oral bioavailability, it can be taken orally when formulated as a prodrug. The use of ADF could lead to new strategies for treating disorders such as depression, anxiety, and obsessive compulsive disorder.
