Product Information

Name:
9-(4-bromobutyl)-9H-fluorene-9-carboxylic acid
Description:

9-(4-Bromobutyl)-9H-fluorene-9-carboxylic acid, also known as lomitapide, is a carboxylate group containing inhibitor of the transfer protein. This drug binds to the hydrophobic pocket of the microsomal triglyceride and prevents the binding of fatty acids to the enzyme. Lomitapide is used to reduce cholesterol levels in patients with familial hypercholesterolemia. It is administered orally once or twice daily. The drug may be prescribed alone or in combination with other lipid lowering agents such as statins, fibrates, nicotinic acid, or bile acid sequestrants. Lomitapide has been shown to have an adverse effect on liver function tests and should not be taken by patients with active liver disease.
