GX-674 is a potent inhibitor of the Kv1.3 voltage-gated potassium channel and has been shown to have selectivity over other channels, such as the Kv1.2 and Kv1.5 channels. GX-674 binds to the open channel of the potassium channel and blocks ion conduction by preventing the opening of the channel pore, thereby blocking action potentials in cardiac cells. GX-674 has also been shown to be an effective anesthetic agent in mice and rats, which may be due to its ability to inhibit neuronal activity in the brain.
