5-(2-Chloro-benzyl)-thiazol-2-ylamine is a therapeutic agent that inhibits cancer cell growth. This drug binds to hypoxia inducible factor 1α (HIF-1α) and blocks the binding of HIF-1α to DNA, which prevents it from inducing the production of proteins that promote cancer cell growth. 5-(2-Chloro-benzyl)-thiazol-2-ylamine has been shown to cause an increase in caspase 3 activity, which leads to apoptosis. 5-(2-Chloro-benzyl)-thiazol-2-ylamine also induces death in cancer cells by inhibiting the production of a growth factor called vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF).
