Product Information
Quinine is a sesquiterpene lactone that is used as an antimalarial drug. Quinine is also used in analytical methods to determine the concentration of other compounds with similar properties, such as quinidine, quinacrine, and quinidine sulfate. Quinine inhibits the activity of DNA polymerase and thereby prevents transcription. Other effects of quinine include its ability to form intermolecular hydrogen bonds with dsDNA and the possibility of it binding to dsDNA through intercalation. Quinine also has anti-inflammatory effects and can be used as a treatment for syncytial virus infections.
