4,6-Dibromo-2,3-dihydro-1H-inden-1-one is a heterocyclic compound with a nuclear magnetic resonance spectrum that displays coupling to the protons of the methyl group. The proton resonance peaks are at 8.7 ppm and 7.3 ppm for the 1H and 13C nuclei respectively. Coupling to the protons of the methyl group is observed by a peak at 3.5 ppm for 1H and at 39.8 ppm for 13C in the 1H NMR spectrum. The chemical shift values correspond to an α carbon atom adjacent to two carbonyl groups, indicating 4,6-dibromo-2,3-dihydro-1H-inden-1-one is a ketone derivative of indene with one more bromine atom than would be expected from its molecular formula alone.
