6-(Morpholin-4-yl)pyridine-2-carboxaldehyde (6MPCA) is a chaperone that has been shown to have neuroprotective effects in animal models of cerebral ischemia. It has been shown to reduce the severity of brain injury following an infarct, through its ability to induce heat shock protein 70 (Hsp70). 6MPCA also potentiates the protective effects of other pharmacological agents, such as phenytoin and amantadine, which are used in the treatment of cerebral ischemia. 6MPCA may be useful in the prevention and treatment of stroke patients with Hsp70 deficiencies or those who are resistant to current treatments.
