Piperidine-1-carboximidamide hydrobromide is an optical isomer of piperidine-1-carboximidamide. This compound has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of kallikrein, with IC50 values in the low micromolar range. It has also been shown to inhibit tumor growth in mice and rats. The optical isomers are not thermally stable and will undergo a transformation into the other isomer at room temperature. These two compounds have different effects on cancer cells, as one inhibits cell growth and the other stimulates the growth of cancer cells.
