7,8,9,9-Tetradehydroisolariciresinol (7,8,9-THI) is a natural product that belongs to the group of vitexin. It is metabolized by oxidative enzymes in the mitochondrial pathway and has been shown to have a potential mechanism for protection against ischemia-reperfusion injury. 7,8,9-THI inhibits creatine kinase activity and dinucleotide phosphate production in tubule cells. This compound also increases the transcriptional regulation of genes responsible for mitochondrial membrane potential. 7,8,9-THI also has anti-oxidative effects in PC12 cells and may be used as an agent for protection against oxidative injury.
